The Great Dust

By Avatar Meher Baba

The dust of the feet of the Perfect Master is greater than all the sacred rivers combined. A handful of dust from the feet of a true saint purifies more than a pilgrimage to all the holy places.

The dust at the feet of the Avatar is the dust of Creation itself — the most sacred substance in all the worlds. To bow down to that dust, to touch it with one’s forehead, to carry it in one’s heart — this is the highest form of worship.

All the scriptures, all the prayers, all the rituals of all the religions — their essence is contained in that single act of surrendering to the dust at the feet of God.

The ego is the dust that veils God. The love of God is the wind that blows that dust away. And the greatest grace is to become the dust at the feet of the Beloved — to be dissolved, to be nothing, so that God alone remains.
